Recently, we asked more than a hundred OneRange power users to tell us their favorite features of the platform. The answers surprised us!

Methodology

We collected qualitative feedback through an open-ended response field. The specific question we asked: “What is your favorite feature of OneRange? Why?” (As a survey nerd, one of my biggest pet peeves is when researchers don’t share the wording of their questions, so here you go! ;-p)).

Then, we prompted ChatGPT to analyze the text results and find some common themes. We received a huge range of responses, from short and broad (“flexibility,” “search”) to long and specific (“Seeing recent selections from my team, this can help with inspo!” and “Ability to add custom learning resources where they wouldn’t exist before. This helps centrally maintain my learning resources in 1 place.”).

Results

Here are the top emerging categories, as identified by ChatGPT and then gut checked through our own (admittedly cursory) review of the data – this was meant purely as an exploratory exercise to see what’s resonating. The descriptions are below, followed by a graph showing the frequency of responses.

Feature

Description

1Adding Custom Resources Many users value the ability to add learning resources that are not already listed on the platform. This was the most frequently mentioned feature.
2Search and Filtering CapabilitiesMany respondents highlighted the search tool and filtering options as useful for finding relevant resources.
3Quick and Easy PurchasingThe ease of purchasing resources, including the “Quick Purchase” feature, was a common highlight.
4Wide Range of ResourcesUsers appreciate the variety and diversity of available learning materials.
5Virtual CardsSeveral users appreciate the virtual card feature, which allows flexible purchasing of resources.
6Flexibility and AutonomyMany responses mentioned the flexibility in selecting and managing resources to fit their individual or team needs.
7Team and Staff InsightsSome users liked features that allow them to see what their team members or staff are using.

Analysis

The ability to add custom resources was a fan favorite by a wide margin, receiving more than double the mentions of any other single feature. This is one of our most tried and true features, and I guess there’s a reason people go back to the classics!

This result surprised us a bit, perhaps because we’re always so focused on developing new tools. But, ultimately, we were delighted to see the popularity of “add your own resource,’’ because it’s one of the signature innovations that sets OneRange apart. This feature reflects our belief in the power of individuals to find the best resources and lead their own upskilling journeys. OneRange is strengthened by the crowdsourcing activities of our users, who can add new courses, books, conferences and tools from anywhere in the world and easily share them with others.

Other top mentions included features that enabled users to quickly find and purchase resources, like search and filtering and a wide variety of upskilling options. These findings validate our belief that removing key barriers to upskilling participation can go a long way toward boosting engagement and impact.

Within this bucket, “virtual cards” emerged as its own distinct category. This stood out to us, because it’s an area where we’ve really tried to think outside the box to reduce friction. Virtual cards enable businesses to easily manage cash flow related to expenses, while eliminating the need for employees to use their own credit cards and then wait to be reimbursed, which can be a big headache. It’s a real win-win – backed by trusted partner Visa – and we were very happy to see users calling it out as a feature they love for quick and easy purchasing.

To round out the list, we noted responses about the value of team and staff insights, such as peer and manager recommendations. (And frankly, I think ChatGPT may have undercounted this area.) While it’s one thing to see the most popular resources across all users – as any good learning platform will do – there is major added value in knowing what people in your own team and organization are learning. And we’re happy to hear that users agree!

Finally, I wanted to highlight a couple responses that didn’t quite fit into the ChatGPT data clusters, but that really resonated with us on a personal level. One user cited the “opportunity to purchase resources I don’t typically get to learn in my day-to-day work,” and another valued “access to things that will improve my mental health that I would otherwise not purchase for myself.”

These sentiments demonstrate the power of combining an upskilling platform designed for limitless learning with a business ethos of investing in the whole individual, not just the 9-5 employee in their current role. More than any one feature itself, a strategy of prioritizing learning and upskilling is the ideal recipe for career development, personal growth, and – dare we say –  human flourishing and actualization.

We look forward to continuing to collect user feedback and share the results with you. What’s your favorite OneRange feature? Did it make this list? Let us know your thoughts on LinkedIn or at [email protected].
